Music Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Anime Music for sending a copy for a review for this site. This is one of many Anime CDs that are domestic release. You thought that the first volume wasn't enough, now here is it, volume two with 20 more music for the hit series, Chobits. Same format as the first volume, another set of background music, along with vocals. You will get another version of "Let Me Be With You", Track 02, but this one is sung by Rie Tanaka, who did the voice of Chi. Again, it's really catchy & it will make you dance & maybe sing along, so be careful when & where you play this music! You also get two other vocal songs, one you don't see in the series. One is Track 10, "Play in the Early Afternoon". You might remember the music, but the vocal sung by Ryoka Yuzuki (Takako). The other one is Track 19, "Mermaid", which is the second ending theme of the series, though it's the TV size version. I don't like this song, it's kinda a sad tone. The rest is more background music from the series, like Track 07, when Hideki went out to search for Chi to Track 11, when Chi goes glowing mode. You might make you remember the funny parts, like Track 14 when Chi went out to get herself some underwear. Agin, you will get some clips of Chi, but one of them is with Hidaki in the beginning of Track 06, 09, 13, 16 & 12. Both are done by the original Japanese voice actors. Again, it would be nice that it was at the end of the track. That way, you can just go on to the music without have to fast foward it.

I find no problem listening to the music. The tracks are well separated.
Packaging:
Since this Anime CD is a domestic release, it got almost the same as the original Japanese packaging, except with a few English adaptation changes. The package carries the same style as the first volume, except the background color is black. I guess it symbolize the two version of Chi that you see during the series. On the cover, you see Hidaki & Chi, in the back, it's the same picture of Chi as the first cover, but in full size. The insert is pretty cool, lots of screenshots (not to mention the dancing Sumomo), the lyrics for the songs, both original Japanese & translated in English, & the credits for the Japanese cast & producers. However, it didn't included the English translation for Hidaki & Chi dialogues for some of the tracks mention above, so either you have to understand Japanese or find another source for the translation. Since the CD case is clear, you get to see a golden Chi in the back of the CD disc itself. On the CD disc fellow the same design as the first volume, a old record disc, but blue at its center.
Overall CD Rating:
If you enjoy the Chobits series or maybe you got the first volume of the OST, it will be perfect to add this to your collection. You get to listen the more catchy version of "Let Me Be With You", as well another song that you won't see during the series. Not only that, you will support Geneon Anime Music on releasing more Anime CDs in the near future. |
