Feature Presentation:
I'm finally able to get a hold a copy of this movie, based upon the Cowboy Bebop series. Thie movie is place before the two last episodes of the series. I never did get the chance to see it when it was first release in theaters. You get to see Spike, Jet, Edward & the sexy Faye all over again in search for bounty head. Oh, I forgot Ein, the smart dog. In this movie, our bounty hunters is chasing an unknown bomber & to stop him for releasing a deadly virus, for a price, of course. You sitll get the action & the little laughter that you enjoy during the regualr series. This movie is done really well, so well, you don't need to watch the series. However, I do recommended to watch the series, so you get to know the characters well. Oh, don't mind the rating "R", I think it's more of a PG-13 catagory.
Video:
I just want to know it's Sony Pictures that release this movie, but Columbia Tristar is a division, I think. They did a great job releasing this movie on DVD. The cool thing about this movie release, you get to see Cowboy Bebop on Widescreen format & better graphic effects then the original series. If you got a Widescreen TV, you're going to enjoy this even more. However, they never did included the original Japanese text credits. The only thing that bites, just before the movie is played, you get the FBI warning. Usually, I perfer them at the beginning when you load the disc.
Dubbing: English:
The best part is that the original cast of the series have return to play their roles once again. I think it's better thay way, it would be the same dub Cowboy Bebop without them. The English dubbing is well done. They try to keep the original Japanese dialogue as much as possible, as well, sticking the same style they use to dub in the originao series. It's about 80% of the original Japanese.
Dubbing: French:
One of the rare treats that it got an addition language track. I'm not sure who did the French dubbing, but it's really done well. I think a little more accurate then the English dubbing, but it's kinda funny to watch it in French.
Audio 01: English 5.1:
Unable to test it, since I don't have a 5.1 surround system in my home, I can't really say much. According to many fans, it was really cool! One little note, you can't change the audio track during the movie, which bites.
Audio XX: English 2.0:
Just letting you know, there isn't an English 2.0 audio track on this DVD. This is artificially made from the 5.1 audio track, that's why I noted it as "XX". I bet it would be alot more interesting with the 5.1. There is one problem, at the ending, during the credit, there is an one second silent, like the music was cut off. Maybe it's like that, I'm not sure. By the way, the English track is not the default track.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
The Japanese track is actually the default audio track of this DVD. I don't know why they didn't do a 5.1 mix for the Japanese track. Like the English track, there seem to have an audio glitch during the ending. Maybe it was like that, but there is moment when it goes silent in the music during the rolling credits. Other then that, no problem.
Audio 03: French 2.0:
The French track also suffer the same little one second silent in the ending credit. Other then that, no problem found.
Subtitle:
All the subtitle is in yellow. There are two tracks of subtitling, but both of them for the Japaese track, one in English, the other in French. The French subtitle is a little more bold.
Menu Option:
The menu is also in widescreen format, but if got just a regular full screen TV, it will display in that format with no problem. The menu is kinda unique, it's like you're flying in the city on Mars. It's pretty cool. It's very simple & clean. There is the "Play", "Screen Access", "Set Up" & "Extras". One of the background music of the movie is playing in the background.
DVD Extras:
There are lots of extras to watch on this DVD, some are cool, others aren't. You get to see the making of Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, both the Japanese & English producers & casts. You also get an in-depth character profile, from the Japanese & English casts. There is also a conceptual art gallery, as well a storyboard comparisons, which you can see how it was made. The only thing that is really lame is the "music vidoes", which aren't actually. It's just a non-credit introduction & ending.
Packaging:
The packaging is pretty cool. You get to see Spike, Faye & the new female in this movie, Electra in a Mars city in the background. Though, it would be nice to see everyone, like Jet, Ed & Ein together there, too. I just want to say that it's not really stunning the image they use for the cover, it doesn't pop out. In the back, just three screeshots. The insert is marks all the chapters in the movie, as well a few more screenshots. On the DVD disc itself, just Spike & Faye. The color red seem to be use alot. Well, the story is in Mars after all.
PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. However, like on the TV, it seems that the images is a little fuzzy, like it has static, when you look closely at it. The sound is just great. The movie is place on one single track as you play the movie, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the first to the last screen with one move on your mouse! However, there is one thing that bugs me watching this DVD on the computer, in all the menus, you can't click on the words (like "play") to make the function work, you have to click on the yellow arrow & only that little arrow.
