Introduction:
Ryo Utsugi has been disturbed by nightmares of being attacked by a gigantic, demonic creature with blood dribbling from its teeth. One day, he develops a mysterious power to hear voices & foresees horrifying images of women being killed. Then, at a cottage in the mountains, he hears the same voice. Who is this?! Who is talking to me?! Ryo runs out of the cottage, jumps off a cliff following the voice, & gets transported to the Himalayas in a blink. There, he encounters the monster from his nightmare: Demon Lord Dante, who had been sealed in ice for 2000 years! Hideous murders, Satanists' black mass, the secrets of the Utsugi family... mysterious things await Ryo, who is transfigured into Dante.

Based on a popular Japanese comic created by veteran creator GO NAGAI ("Devil Man", Cutie Honey") in 1971, "The Demon Lord Dante" is now reborn as an animated series!

Contains Episodes:
  • Episode 01: Nightmare
  • Episode 02: Ritual
  • Episode 03: Resurrection
  • Episode 04: Madness

Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. If you like one of those Anime series between good VS evil, in this case, the army of God VS the evil of demons, this is for you. It got the blood & gore, along with cute girls being killed by demon beasts. There is our enemy of evil Satanists, along with the good guys that fellow the word of God. Yup, there is even some hot moments time to time. Honestly, I think this series remind me of an adult Anime (Hentai), but without the naughty sex parts! I must add the music doesn't really help. I don't think I have much to say, as the description on the back of the DVD sums it up quite well. Oh, one more thing you might noticed strange, the preview is shown before the ending credits.

Video:
Geneon Entertainment did a very great job. They have taken the time to do it right. I found no problem, the image are clear & the color looks perfect. It's a really colorful. There is some watermarks done for the introduction & ending credits (they are translated in English). Each episodes are separated into 5 parts: the introduction, part A, part B, the preview & the ending for the next episode! Since all the episodes are on one single track on the DVD, there is no loading time or changing tracks when you move on to the next episode. I do note that you can skip the warnings & logos in the beginning using the "Menu" button on your remote.

Dubbing: English:
The English dubbing is well done, even for this type of Anime. However, there are many changes, but it fits quite well. It's about 75% of the original Japanese.

Audio 01: English 2.0:

Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:

Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment have selected a great font, very easy to read. They use green introduction theme & ending theme. The rest is yellow for the dialogue. There is only one subtitling track, which is for the Japanese dialogue. You won't get any subtitle for the introduction or ending theme, except if you turn it on. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese on this volume.

Menu Option:
It's a pretty cool menu, with a ghostly feeling to it. There is the "Play All", "Screen Access", "Set Up" & "Extras". Selecting any of the options, you will have a little animation, a small flash or some sort. I'm not sure where the background music is playing on the menu is from, I guess it's from the series. Note that there is no background music in the other menu section. The icons used for the selected options is a splat of blood, suiting to what type of Anime you be watching.

DVD Extras:
The extra seem cool. You get some episode highlights, though, it's for EPS 03, 04, 05 & 06. It feels like a preview to me, but we don't get EPS 05 & EPS 06 on this DVD. It's not dubbed, only in original Japanese audio with no subtitles. There is also a non-credit opening & ending, a little section of character profiles & the US version trailer of this series. The best part is a small clip of the Press Conference when this series was release in Japan.

Packaging:
It's not the greatest, but it's ok. On the cover, you see the Demon Lord Dante himself, with a close up view of his evil eyes in the background. In the back, you get a few screenshots, with flames in the back. The insert have the same image as the cover, along with a Demon symbol. Inside the insert is an episode list along with screenshots for each of them. On the DVD disc itself, it's just the close up eyes of Demon Lord Dante from the cover.

PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel. The sound is just great. The only thing annoying is the menu option. You have to click on the blood splat to make the selection, instead of the word, for example, "Play". The episodes are place on one single track as you play the episodes, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the first episode to the last episode with one move on your mouse! Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.

Overall DVD Rating:
I don't like this kind of Anime much, it reminds me of a bad adult Anime series. Well, it's the first 4 episodes, it might get better as the story goes on.
