Introduction:
Alien Slave?

One year ago, an alien spacecraft crashed into Tokyo Bay. With no means to return, the aliens obtain Japanese citizenship & begin a home-stay program with regular families & schools. They are given the name "DearS", meaning "beloved friend". However, Takeya, an opinionated teen, doesn't trust the alines one bit. But when Takeya encounters a mysterious girl who is cold, hungry & wrapped only in a blanket, he takes pity on her. As he brings her home to care for her, he finds that she is quite possibly one of the DearS. Add an alien cat-girl, an over-sexed teacher & the fact that this DearS considers Takeya her master, life is beginning to become a little more then he can handle.

Contains Episodes:
  • Episode 01: I Want to Nibble Sweetly
  • Episode 02: Was It Too Small?
  • Episode 03: Ball! Ball!
  • Episode 04: Wipe Your Mouth

Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. Here is another one of those all cute Anime series. You got them all, a hot sexy alien, a teacher that is way over hyperactive, along with a clueless guy on what to do & a very good friend. Even the titles of the episodes has an unique & naughty ring into it, no? I find it quite entertaining, sexy & hilairous fun mix all together. This is where the big question have finally awnser, are we alone in space? One faithful day, an alien spacecraft crashed down to Tokyo Bay. Since then, these aliens, now called "DearS" have fully intergraded. Here we get to meet Takeya, a single guy with no luck with girls, has a dislike on this strange beings from outerspace, until he ran into one, naked! With no clue what to do, he took her in his care. However, not knowing what he got himself into, this strange DearS started calling him Master & she is her slave! EVen her name is really long & nearly impossible to say! His life cant get any stranger, but with the help of his childhood friend, Neneko, he won't be that bad, or is it? It really brings a whole new meaning to be a master & a slave! A little warning, there is a little too much naughtiness all over!

Video:
Geneon Entertainment did a very great job. I found no problem, the image are clear & the color looks perfect. It's a really colorful. There is some watermarks done for the introduction & ending credits (they are translated in English). Each episodes are separated into 5 parts: the introduction, part A, part B, the preview & the ending for the next episode! Since all the episodes are on one single track on the DVD, there is no loading time or changing tracks when you move on to the next episode. I do note that you can skip the warnings & logos in the beginning using the "Menu" button on your remote.

Dubbing: English:
The English dubbing is well done. They even kept the alien language intact when Ren speaks. However, there is a strange British accent somewhere, too. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.

Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found.

Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found.

Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment have selected a great font, very easy to read. They use light blue introduction theme & ending theme. The rest is yellow for the dialogue. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese on this volume.

Menu Option:
The menu is pretty simple, with Ren & Takeya on the side with moving bubbles in the background. There is the "Play All", the selection for each episode & "Screen Access". However, the "Set Up" & "Extras" are together. Selecting any of the options, you will have a little animation of bubbles. I'm not sure where the background music is playing on the menu is from, I guess it's from the series. Note that there is no background music in the other menu section.

DVD Extras:
There isn't much extras, but the non-credit opening, along with an art gallery, which isn't mention in the packaging.

Packaging:
I find the packaging very colorful! On the cover, you see Ren in her alien suit grabbing Takeya. In the back, you see Ren & Takeya, along with a screenshot from each episode. However, I find that the summary is a little too long. The insert is bascially the same image as the cover, along with the list of the next volumes coming out. Inside the insert is a mini-poster with the hot girls, Ren & Miu & the crazy teacher right in the middle. On the DVD disc itself, it's the same as the back image used of Takeya & Ren. Since the DVD case is a clear one, you get to see the reversable cover & boy, it's a real hot one! It's Neneko with Ren in a really naughty pose!

PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel. The sound is just great. The only thing annoying is the menu option. You have to click on the blood splat to make the selection, instead of the word, for example, "Play". The episodes are place on one single track as you play the episodes, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the first episode to the last episode with one move on your mouse! Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.

Overall DVD Rating:
You might noticed something, if you like Chobits or even Love Hina, this is going to be perfect for you. I think this series is quite wonderful & entertaining to watch. It's funny, tasteful & it even makes you curious what the DearS really are. Stay tune.
