Feature Presentation:
For some of you, Golden Boy is just plain wrong, but never judge a book by it's cover, I always say. You will get a good laugh out of this. I couldn't stop laughing every time I see it. There are 3 episodes on this DVD & each of them are equally funny. Kintaro Oe, a student who loves to work part-time jobs, seeks new educational studies to learn, noting it down on his journal & try not to be seduce by the girls! I don't want to spoil anything, but I do warn you that some parts might be sick, like Kintaro "toilet" fetish, others are hilarious or out right wrong, as I quote from Kintaro, "Oh, if only my hand were my penis!". *lol* The girls are babes, great story line and, for each episodes, there is always a happy ending.
Video:
I have seen the VHS version of Golden Boy & the DVD version is way better. ADV Films did a really good job & they even improve it. All the colors are sharp as ever & you can see pretty much the details! Though, there is few censorship, but if you watch it, you will know why!
Dubbing: English:
The only thing I didn't like that the voice actresses of the girls are all the same for each episodes. I can't really complaint much, they all did a really good job. I say about 80% accuracy of the original Japanese version.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
The audio track is very clear & sharp as a bird. I didn't hear any problems within the audio. Not bad for simple stereo mode.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
For some Anime DVDs I have watch, the Japanese audio track always seem to be louder then the English audio track. For this DVD, there is none. I keep switching both languages, no difference in volume, which is good news. Like the English track, I didn't hear any problems, the audio is clear. Usually, I watch the Japanese version first (with subtitle), since I prefer watching it in their original form, but in this case, I didn't. I did watch it after, but I didn't laugh as much. So, if you never seen Golden Boy & like watching the original Japanese, make sure to do so.
Subtitle:
Actually, there are 2 tracks for subtitling, one is only for the subtitle of items that is shown in Japanese symbol, the other one is the actually subtitle for the Japanese audio track, as well as the items. The English subtitle is translated good. If only I can understand Japanese, then I could know for sure. The subtitles are alright, but sometimes, the yellow somehow doesn't pop out clear, but it's "bolded" so you can read it clear enough.
Menu Option:
Looky, looky, it's Kintaro's diary! That's a good idea. The main theme is also is playing in the background. You can pick what episode you want to watch first or select the scene you want to watch first. The scene option is done in 4 parts for each episodes, the intro of the story, the main opening, part 1, part 2 & the ending credits. Then there is the Language & the Extras options.
DVD Extras:
I want to cry! Nothing much then the opening & ending credits without any credit names. There is an image gallery, which are screenshots, with some actually nice images. Nothing much. How sad.
Packaging:
I find it pretty cool the art cover. There are 2 girls on the cover, I wish they use the 3 girls that in the episodes. On the back, some screenshots of some scenes of the episodes & looky, the missing babe in the corner! I wonder why they didn't put it on the main cover. The insert is pretty simple, just the same picture as the cover & there is a chapter list as well. The DVD disc cover is pretty plain, just Kintaro on his bicycle & hugging the...
Overall DVD Rating:
When I heard it's going to be release, I order it right away, because I can't get enough of it. It's worth it. Just a warning, Golden Boy is tends to be more for males viewer because of it contents, so do get perky over it & so be sure to ask your girlfriend before watching it with her, she might not like it.
