Review Done By: Guardian Inferno

Introduction:
From Gainax (EVANGELION), with production by Toshimichi Otsuki (EVANGELION, SLAYERS, NADESICO), chief direction & story by Hideaki Anno (EVANGELION) & character design by Tadashi Hiramatsu (EVANGELION) comes a high-tension story of the heartrending rivalries of a first love.

Yukino has finally decided she will do Aya's play, but with Culture Fest deadlines looming, not everyone is being so supportive of her determination to make her acting debut. Maho is refusing to take part, the student council members are telling her to give up, & the other clubs have already claimed all of the materials & practice space. In the midst of the turmoil, Yukino is about to uncover help from some very unexpected sources - Mr. Kawashima & ...Asaba?!?

With everyone else working hard on Aya's play, Arima is feeling alone & depressed. Yukino seems to be changing. Does she really even need him anymore?

Contains Episodes:
  • Episode 22: 14 Days (Part 04)
  • Episode 23: 14 Days (Part 05)
  • Episode 24: A Different Story From So Far
  • Episode 25: A Different Story From Up To Now
  • Episode 26: 14 Days (Part 06)

Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Right Stuf International for sending a copy for a review for this site. The last volume of this series finally here. Finally, Yukino agreed to do the play, but is it too late to do it? Not with Yukino's talents & connections. The play it's on it ways, as Maho thinks it's not going to work out. Arima been feeling down & I can understand him, feeling that his love isn't paying much attention. Well, distance does make the heart grow fonder. There are three parts in this volume, three episodes are for the ending of the series, one is mostly another review of the entire series & a little episode just for Kano, Yukino's younger sister, which I find really sweet. Well, I'm not gonna spoiled the ending, but the last volume will give one last rounds of cuteness & laugher to finish off the series!

Since this series was made by the team of "Evangelion", can you spot the "Evangelion" theme? The ending credit remains the same, the camera move in an actual Japanese school & other Japanese landmarks. After that, a "Preview" of what to come on the next episode, done by 2 of the original cast of the series in real-life.

Video:
The quality remains the same as the first one, very clear & smooth, no problem at all. Right Stuf International did a really good job. They kept most of the feature in all the volumes. You can use your DVD player "Angle" option. You can switch between the original Japanese text during the introduction & the title screens. Plus, this option can let you switch between different version of the "Preview" on the next episode, which is done by the real-life voice actress, between the Japanese cast & the English cast. Though, there is one thing I wonder, there are only recaps for the first two episodes. By the way, you can skip all those warnings & logos when you first load the DVD by just pressing the "Menu" button on your remote control.

Dubbing: English:
I find the dubbing really well done. I still didn't like the voice for Tonami, but I'll get used to it. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.

Audio 01: English 2.0:
Well, English track isn't the default on this DVD. You still have to switch it if you want to watch it in English. The dubbing is really great, very clear & no problem at all. They really pick the cast very well. It suit the personality of each character in the story. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.

Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
The Japanese track is the default track. It's great that both Japanese track & English track are at the same volume, so I don't have to adjust the volume of the TV while changing the tracks.

Subtitle:
It still have the same format. There are 6 tracks for subtitling, which the first 3 in English, the last 3 are in Spanish. First subtitling track only subtitle the Japanese talking, the second one is only for translating Japanese text that is shown during the episode, & the third one is both talking & translating. The last 3 tracks are the Spanish, the same function as the first 3. The subtitle are white, clean & easy to read, except in some parts when the background is really bright.

Menu Option:
The menu remains the for all the volumes. The menu is really simple. It's just a picture of the main characters in the background with a sweet piano music. On the bottom, there are 4 buttons, "Play All", "Scene Selection", "Extras" & "Language Setting". The Scene selection is pretty well organize. They are separated by episode, then by section per episode, intro, recap, part one, part two, mid-episode, ending & preview of the next episode.

DVD Extras:
There isn't much extras. You get more characters' bios, translation notes & production notes. More voice actor interviews, except that it's only in Japanese version cast. I wonder why they didn't do an interview of the English cast. It would be cool to have both. You get the English actresses' outtakes, bascially, it's the full clip of the "preview" at the end of each episodes. Nothing really much. The cool thing, you be having cool phone messages, great for your anwsering machine or voice box. Hopefully, if anyone calls you don't think you're some weird family in the house. Oh, you will also get the original trailers for this series.

Packaging:
Using the same style as the other volumes, it's pretty simple. You get to see Yukino & Arima once last time. However, the cover picture is really a bad one. It's all so fuzzy & "pixelize", not as smooth & nice as the others. Again, it comes with a clear DVD case, I wonder why they didn't print anything behind so you can actually see what is written on the back when you open the case. There isn't any insert yet again. In the back, some more screenshots. The DVD disc cover itself is the same as the cover.

PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The episodes are on different tracks on the DVD, so it have a small pause when it move to the next episode. Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.

Overall DVD Rating:
Finally, the last volume of this funny series. Hope you enjoy it!
