Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to ADV Films for sending a copy for a review for this site. This is the second season of this hilarious series, Those Who Hunt Elves. You will be getting a total of six episodes on this first volume! Honestly, I haven't seen the first season yet, so I have to make due with this one. Though, you do get a recap on what happen at the beginning of the first episode. I think you should check out the first season to know what really happen if you can before watching the second season. After finding all the spell fragments & losing it all, our little team are out to search for them all over again, so they can go back to their world. Problem is, they have to find them on female elves bodies & to do that, strip them! Riding on a tank, they travel town to town, seeking the spell fragments, trying not to cause too much problems, maybe saving the day. I find this series funny, cute & you might notice a few things that related to the "normal" world. Boy, now I know why Junpei hate the fantasy world, there is a huge shark, a lack of toilet papers, animal curses, an astronomy problem, an overgrown bean stock & last, an all-girl school for Elves! Oh, just letting you know, there is no nudity in stripping all those Elves! Sorry guys!
Video:
ADV Films did a very great job. They have taken the time to do it right. I found no problem, the image are clear & the color looks perfect. It's a really colorful. The episodes are on a different track, so there will be a small loading time when you move on to the next episode. I do note that you can skip all those warnings & logos when you first load the DVD by just pressing the "Menu" button on your remote control.
Dubbing: English:
The English dubbing is well done. I'm not sure if they change the cast, since the first & second season are dubbed in different time. They capture the laugher & expression of all the characters. The dialogue even includes Japanese terms, like "chan". It's about 85% of the original Japanese.
Dubbing: Spanish:
A rare feature, the Spanish track was included. I found it really neat, problem is, I don't understand Spanish, so I can't really give you how well it is dubbed.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found.
Audio 03: Spanish 2.0:
No problem found.
Subtitle:
ADV Films Pioneer Animation have selected a great font, very easy to read. They use yellow for the introduction, ending themes & the Japanese dialogue & white for Japanese signs & text. There are two tracks of subtitling. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese on this volume.
Menu Option:
There menu is fairly simple. You see a little animation, then you get to see the tank rolling along the screen. There isn't a "Play All" feature, just a selection of one of the 6 episodes, "Set Up" & "Extras". However, there isn't an "Screen Access". The menu used a star for the selection button! When you select one of the episodes, you get a magic blast. Though, usually you get the introduction theme playing in the background of the main menu, but this time, you get the ending theme as the background music. Yes, the introduction theme is used, for the other section of the menu.
DVD Extras:
There isn't much extras on it, just a non-credit opening & ending. There is also an original trailer of this series.
Packaging:
Pretty interesting design. On the cover, you get to see the cute elf, Celcia, the tank & the rest of the team driving side way. Yes, you get to see a cute bear. I won't tell you who or why is there, but you will see in one of the episodes. In the back, another picture of the team, some screenshots. The insert is just another picture of the cool Airi holding a sword, with Ritsuko & Junpei, holding a cute Panda, in the back. Yes, it included a chapter listing. On the DVD disc cover itself, you get the same picture of Celcia as the cover, along with the cute while bear!
PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. Since the episodes are on different tracks, it will take time to load when you move on to the next episode. Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.
Overall DVD Rating:
If you have seen the first season & enjoy it, this will be great to add to your collection. You still get the same laughter, same fun, stripping all the female elves, with new adventures to find, again, the spell fragments!
