Introduction:
With character designs by Yuriko Chiba (STEEL ANGEL KURUMI) & scripts from Kaoru Shintani (AREA 88), I Dream Of Mimi is a cybernetic love story like no other!

For three long years, Akira has been saving to buy his very own computer. So when the Model 9821 finally goes on sale, he races to the store only to discover that it sold out in just 5 minutes! Yet, as luck would have it, Akira also manages to stumble across a man who just happens to be willing to sell him the exact model he was looking for! Unfortunately, Akira doesn't look close enough at the packaging. Instead of the 9821, he ends up with a Model 2198, a super-advanced, biomechanical computer girl named Mimi!

She's cute, she's got the super-fast processor he's always wanted & she can fix up the house in an instant! But this cute little computer genie also comes with a couple of catches. Mimi is being mysteriously targeted for destruction by other bio-types & she's going to require memory upgrades in order to fend them off! Lucky for Akira, upgrades aren't expensive, just extremely embarrassing - since the only way to upgrade a bio-type is to use their master's "active molecules"! So much for saving himself for marriage...

So now, poor Akira's life has been turned upside down. How can he possibly explain Mimi to his friends? Why is Mimi being attacked? The future's uncertain, but one thing's for sure - Akira's in for a wild ride!

Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Right Stuf International for sending a copy for a review for this site. This is a short series of three episode, so don't ask if there is more. You might have heard it before as Buttobi CPU, the original Japanese title. This version is a remaster & re-release on DVD, with both the English dubbing & original Japanese dialogue. First off, this is not for kids at all. I think it's the borderline of being an adult Anime, but it's like soft porn as you don't see the actual action, but there is lots of nudity & sexual behaviors. However, beside that, it is hilarous & you will have a good laugh out of it, along with some embrassing moments. Akira been saving to buy a computer for three years & when the Model 9821 that he wanted went on sale, he goes rush there to get it & find out it was sold out. Out of luck, a guy wanted to sell Model 9821. Without thinking, he bought it. However, opening the package, he ends up with a naked girl. Though it was a scan, the girl woke up & indentified herself as a Model 2198, called Mimi. Akira read the numbers all wrong! However, this girl is very special, in fact, she is a computer, a bio-type! Don't you wish you got a computer like her? The only problem is, someone is out to get her, sneaking to destroy all bio-type, well, not all, just Japanese made ones. You won't believe who it is! Well, there is one good news, upgrades aren't expensive. I'm not going say anymore so I won't spoiled your laugh! You got to see to believe!

Video:
Right Stuf International has work on it really well. This Anime is pretty old, but the animation is still pretty good. Clear & smooth, there is a little static here & there. Also, there is no watermarked done, so the introduction & ending credits are in original Japanese, but they do have an English credit after the preview. Each episodes are separated into 9 parts: the prologue, the introduction, part A, part B, part C, part D, ending, the preview for the next episode & an English version credit! The episodes are all on different tracks, it will have a little loading time when you move on to the next episode. There is one thing that bugs me. If you didn't select the "Play All" at the menu, but one of the selection episodes, at the end of that episode, you will go back to the menu. Let's say you selected EPS 02 on the menu, it won't go to EPS 03 at the end, but in the menu. It's annoying. By the way, you can skip all those warnings & logos when you first load the DVD by just pressing the "Menu" button on your remote control.

Dubbing: English:
I find the dubbing really well done. However, the dubbing was done a while ago. After all, this is just a re-release from the original VHS version, with the exception that this one got the original Japanese version. It's about 80% of the original Japanese.

Subtitle:
Right Stuf International have selected a great font, easy to read. They use green for the introduction & ending themes, the rest is yellow & white for Japanese signs & text. There are two tracks of subtitling. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. I might note that every even numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the odd numbered episodes are in Japanese original text.

Menu Option:
The menu is pretty simple. No fancy animation or anything. It's just like a computer screen, windows box with icons & a cute picture of Mimi on the right. You got the "Play All", "Episodes" selection, "Extras" & the "Set Up". There is even a little "Trash" bin. I'm not going to tell you want it does, if you're curious, go ahead! The background music in all the sections is the ending theme.

DVD Extras:
The outtakes are the best, some are funny, others aren't. Though, I do suggest to watch the series before taking a look at the outtakes for the full effect. There is also the original US trailer for this series, along with a small art gallery. Not very good pictures there, I must add.

Packaging:
Well, the package is pretty simple as well. On the cover, you see Mimi hugging Akira, holding one of her programming disk. You won't see the original Buttobi CPU title. In the back, another picture of Mimi, sitting in front of the computer. There is a very large description I might add. The insert is pretty much a cool transition image between battle mode Mimi & her normal mode. On the disc itself, it's Akira's embrassing look with a blueish Mimi in the background.

PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The episodes are on different tracks on the DVD, so it will take a small time to load when you move on to the next episode. There is one little problem, for some reason, you can't move to the desire time using your mouse, you must either fast forward or rewind. That's the only thing annoying. Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.

Overall DVD Rating:
A good Anime classic. It's full with hiralous laughter, fun, along with parodies that will shock you! Don't you wish you got a computer like that. Again, it's not for kids & it does involve sexual behaviors. Just sit back & enjoy!
