Introduction:
Mao-Chan is a 2nd grader whose grandfather is the Chief of Staff of the Ground Defense Force. She has been trained to become a valuable member of the force since she was born. When she turns eight, she, together with her friends Misora-Chan & Sylvia-Chan, form the elementary school defense team. Mao protects the land, Misora, the skies, & Sylvia, the sea. These pint-size girls do their best to protect Japan from "cute" alien invaders.

  • Episode 01: "I" Myself Will Protect Japan!
  • Episode 02: Mao-Chan's First Dispatch!
  • Episode 03: Misora-Chan of the Air Defense Force!
  • Episode 04: Air & Ground Are One
  • Episode 05: Sylvia of the Sea Defense Force
  • Episode 06: Shall We Eat Something for Now?
  • Episode 07: We Even Defend Against a Water Skipper

Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. I just want to say this isn't a good Anime to watch, except if you like kid type Anime. I jsut find it a little too boring & I didn't like it much. It says it's suited for all ages, but some situation isn't for kids, like a young female falling in love with an older male (Mao-Chan's grandfather). Not to mention the main characters are in dangerous positions, like sitting outside on a flying plane. Though there is 7 episodes in total, each runs about 15 minutes each, which all of them have a mini introduction, with the introduction & ending theme!

Video:
Geneon Entertainment did a very great job. They have taken the time to do it right. I found no problem, the image are clear & the color looks perfect. It's a really colorful. Since all the episodes are on one single track on the DVD, there is no loading time or changing tracks when you move on to the next episode. I do note that you can't skip the warnings & logos in the beginning using the "Menu" button on your remote. However, there is an IG Production logo that starts before the episodes goes. Usuaully, these logos are place when you load the DVD disc for the first time.

Dubbing: English:
The only thing they managed to do is to keep the same all high pitch voices for our little heroines like the original Japanese. There is one exception. For some reasons, Sylvia-Chan have a british acent. The voice are really annoying & I just don't find it cute. It just doesn't seem to match up well. Plus, they did remove one naughty remark from the original Japanese during dubbing, about a possible "Lolita Complex". It's about 80% of the original Japanese.

Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found.

Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found.

Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment have selected a great font, very easy to read. They use green for the introduction & ending themes, the rest is yellow. There are two tracks of subtitling. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese original text, for you to do some karaoke!

Menu Option:
It is very annoying menu! It has a long introductuon of Mao-Chan when you enter the menu (the same as you see in the beginning of each episode). The selection are "Play All", "Screen Access", "Set Up" & "Extras". The background music is the main piano theme.

DVD Extras:
Nothing much a non-credit opening & outtakes, which isn't that funny!

Packaging:
Well, the packaging, I think Geneon Entertainment can do better, like the other series. On the cover, you see Mao-Chan with her tank in the back. In the back, you see Mao-Chan with her friends. The font they use is a little too small. The insert is just a chapter list for all the episodes. The DVD disc itself a pink shadow of Mao-Chan in a black background. Since the DVD case is a clear one, you can see lots of screenshots.

PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The episodes are place on one single track as you play the episodes, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the first episode to the last episode with one move on your mouse! However, you can't skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc.

Overall DVD Rating:
Well, I didn't like it much & that's all I'm going to say.
