Introduction:
Two years have passed since the Great War...

Akito & Yurika have wanished. The Jovians & Earthlings have joined forces & Ruri is now Captain of the Nadesico B. As the popularity of Bosson Jumping grows, a vast transprotation network, has been developed. Dubbed The Hisago Plan, this network of Chulip portals holds the answers to the mysteries behind Bose particles & their power. If those secrets should fall into the wrong hands, it could mean big trouble & big trouble there is.

A Martian splinter group has launched an offensive, leaving the Unified Forces befuddled & desperate.

So much so, in fact, that the former crew of the Nadesico is called back to active duty for a special unsanctioned mission - to save us all. Does this menagerie of misfits have what it takes? Who will vin the race for Boson technology & what the heck ever happened to Akito & Yurika? The answers lie within; deep within the Martian Successor Nadesico: The Motion Picture - The Price of Darkness!

Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to ADV Films for sending a copy for a review for this site. I have yet to see the series, so I got no idea what happen before this movie. However, this movie is good as it stand, but if you need more in depth about the characters, you need to check out the series, which I think it's a good idea. After two years since the Great War, Jovians & Earthlings have joined forces. As the popularity of Boson Jumping grows, a vast transportation network has been developed. However, there is a dark secret. Ruri is now captain of the Nadesico, she discovers what's this secret & she is now in charge to get back the original crew & save everyone they hold dear. But what does Akito & Yurika disappearence have to do with it?

Video:
ADV Films did a really food job releasing this movie on DVD. To top things off, the movie is feature on Widescreen format. If you got a Widescreen TV, you're going to enjoy this even more. The only thing that I might not able to see is the original Japanese credit, only the English one at the end of the movie. Since there is no extras on this DVD, that option is not available. I do note that you can skip all those warnings & logos when you first load the DVD by just pressing the "Menu" button on your remote control.

Dubbing: English:
The dubbing is really great. They pick the cast very well. However, since the dubbing is done later time then the original series, they didn't use the original cast. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.

Audio 01: English 5.1:
Unable to test it, since I don't have a 5.1 surround system, I can't really say much.

Audio XX: English 2.0:
Just letting you know, there isn't an English 2.0 audio track on this DVD. This is artificially made from the 5.1 audio track, that's why I noted it as "XX". I found no problem with the audio, but I bet it would be alot more interesting with the 5.1.

Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found.

Subtitle:
ADV Films Pioneer Animation have selected a great font, very easy to read. They use yellow all the dialogues, as well the ending theme & white for Japanese signs & text. There are two tracks of subtitling. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. There is something cool about it. On the Japanese sign & text subtitle track, you will get the English translated lyrics for the ending theme, but if you switch to the other track for the Japanese dialogue, you will get the original Japanese lyrics.

Menu Option:
The menu is also in widescreen format, but if got just a regular full screen TV, it will still remains in widescreen. There isn't much to the menu, no special animations or anything. Though, you do see Ruri in the back. It hold the "Play", "Screen Selection", "Setup" & "ADV Prviews". The ending theme is playing as the background music for all sections of the menu, including the main one.

DVD Extras:
There is no extra, zero, zip, nothing!

Packaging:
The package is really well done. I really love it. One the cover, you get to see the beautiful Ruri, with some cool mecha in the back, as well as Nadesico ship. In the back, you see lots of screenshots, but it's like going in circle, as in those view panels you see in the movie. The insert is just a mini-poster for the movie & a chapter list. The DVD disc itself is one of the cool mecha. Oh, since the DVD is a clear one, you get to see the reversible cover, which I find it really awesome. It's actually the original Japanese version cover!

PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The movie is place on one single track, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the beginning to the end with one move on your mouse! Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.

Overall DVD Rating:
If you have seen the series, you got to get the movie!
