Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to ADV Films for sending a copy for a review for this site. This is the second season of this hilarious & magical series called Orphen, which is also the name of the main character. Honestly, I didn't see the first season yet, so I got no clue what is really going on, but even you didn't, it's easy to pick up who is who. Well, I guess after finishing one journey, they are off to another, except, all Orphen & his friends only want to relax in the hot spring after starting the day with a blast. You will see why. Except, the places that have hot springs don't like sorcerers. Problem is, Orphen & his friends, Majic & Cleao are sorcerers! Not to mention, there is two wierdos after them (Volcan & his brother), as well as a strange girl. Volcan is trying to kill Orphen so he doesn't have to pay what he owes to him. Though, he have to fight his way, from demons to greedy peoples. The last episode on this volume is hilarous, as Volcan went all good & kind, driving Orphen crazy!
Video:
ADV Films did a very great job. I found no problem, the image are clear & the color looks perfect. The episodes are on a different track, so there will be a small loading time when you move on to the next episode. There is some watermarks done for the introduction & ending credits (they are translated in English). Each episodes are separated into 5 parts: the introduction, part A, part B, ending & the preview for the next episode! I do note that you can skip all those warnings & logos when you first load the DVD by just pressing the "Menu" button on your remote control.
Dubbing: English:
The dubbing is really great, except there is lots of change. I guess to keep the hilarious moments intact that the original Japanese audio didn't have. Orphen's magic spells isn't constant is one thing. It's about 80% of the original Japanese.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found.
Subtitle:
ADV Films have selected a great font, very easy to read. They use yellow for the introduction, ending themes & the Japanese dialogue & white for Japanese signs & text. There are two tracks of subtitling. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese on this volume.
Menu Option:
The menu is really simple. It's the same as the cover on this DVD. There isn't a "Play All" or a "Screen Access" features, just a selection of one of the 4 episodes, "Set Up" & "Extras". There is any special effects if you select any options. The main theme is playing in the background in the main menu, as well as other sections.
DVD Extras:
There isn't much extras on it, just a non-credit opening & ending. There is also an outtake, which is pretty funny. I do suggest that you watch the series first before watching the outtake for the full effect.
Packaging:
The design makes it looks like a book. On the cover, you see Orphen & Cleao with her blue pet dog, with Volcan & his brother chasing after them. It's a very nice picture, I might add. In the back, you get 4 screenshots. The insert is pretty simple, no mini-poster or anything. It's the same information & screenshots as the back, along with a full-size image of the cover. The DVD disc itself, yet again, the same image used as the cover.
PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. Since the episodes are on different tracks, it will take time to load when you move on to the next episode. Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.
Overall DVD Rating:
You got some butt-kicking, cute girls, magic spells, not to mention, all out fun & hilairous, this series have it all. It's not so bad & you don't really need to watch the first season, though, it is recommended so you really know what's going on. Still, it's fill with laugher that will keep you entertained!
