Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. This is the first time I'll be reviewing a box set. Finally, the entire Sailor Moon SuperS box set have arrived. I think it's a big thing for all past & current Sailor Moon fan that been fighting for years for this release. As it is impossible to summarize all 39 episodes, jsut say it rolls around Rini (Mini Moon) with Pegasus that only exist in beautiful dreams. Many new ememines, new transformation & power ups for all who never seen SuperS. Though, Sailor Uranus, Neptune & Pluto won't be there. All of the episodes are release in their original format. No censorship, nothing is cut, it's all there.
Video:
As I mention it before, Sailor Moon SuperS is release in their original format, so Geneon Entertainment didn't do a little restoration. I guess they want to keep it original as possible. If you have already bought the series when it came out individually, don't get thos box set. It's the exact same thing, except it's in a new packaging. I found no problem, just the images is a little fuzzy, but it is an old Anime series after all. Also, you don't get to see the original Japanese credits, it's over watermark with the English version of it. Since all the episodes are on one single track on the DVD, there is no loading time or changing tracks when you move on to the next episode. You might noticed that there is still the old "Pioneer" logo, as they didn't change it to the new one. You can skip the warning & logos when you first load the DVD by pressing the menu button on your remote straight to the menu.
Dubbing: English:
Though Geneon Entertainment never did the dubbing, it's the same dubbing as you saw the series on TV, except there is more due it's an uncut version. You know that the Ebglish dubbing of Sailor Moon is kinda horrible. I still miss the original voice actress that did Sailor Moon.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
The Japanese track is a little bit louder then the English track. Other then that, no problem found.
Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment use the same font as the first original release of this series. They didn't change it to the new one you see on the newer release of Anime by them. I do note there is only one subtitle track. However, both the English lyrics (green) & the original Japanese lyrics (white) are display together for both the introduction & ending theme.
Menu Option:
Since there is a total of seven discs, each menu varies. There is the "Play All", "Screen Access", "Set Up" & "Extras". It didn't change, it remains the same like the first release.
DVD Extras:
Again, the extras varies from disc to disc, like the original Japanese credit introduction & ending theme. Some discs don't have any extras, like the 7th disc.
Packaging:
As the series have been release already, this is just a simple repackaging to a box set. The box itself is solid, with pictures of Sailor Moon & Mini Moon along with Diana with many Sailor Moon SuperS logo! The covers on each slim case are the exact as the first release covers, however, the back have change to a mult-color of the Sailor Scouts. Each have episodes listing, but doesn't included any synopsis, which I think it's a bad idea! You can also noticed that Geneon Entertainment using their new logo, as well. The only problem I found is the little survey card you find. Due to the design of the slim DVD case, this card interers with it's lock & the disc. That's the reason why there isn't any insert. On the DVD discs itself, it's a flashy Sailor Moon, like the box cover. It's the same for all seven discs.
PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The episodes are place on one single track as you play the episodes, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the first episode to the last episode with one move on your mouse! Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.
Overall DVD Rating:
I always never did like the SuperS series, but after watching the complete series, I think I like it now. It's not as good as the S series. However, as you know, Toei Animation won't be keeping Sailor Moon in North America for long, as they want to promote the live-action version of Sailor Moon. This is the final pull to release it to get it out for all of you Sailor Moon fan. Once it's gone, it's gonna be a while before it comes out again.
