Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. Wow, it's another fighting series, but a little twist. Well, other then naughty bits. Here comes two new students, Souichiro & Bob, heading their first day in their new school. However, they got a diabolical plan to take over their new school & be in charge. However, they didn't know that their new school is a little different. It's where the best martial arts trained, like the Juken Club, Maya whooped their butt in a flash (not to mention Maya got special power to change the way how she looks). As things didn't get any worst, Aya, Maya's little sister, is chasing Souichiro & trying to make him her new husband. Here comes the evil part, like most school, there is some form of a student union & this school as one. The thing is, they rule under absolute power & whoever dare challenge their authorities, they will be punished very severely. A little cute girl to hot babes, cool fighting scenes & a little lesson about the concepts of "chi", things at the new school will be very interesting...
Video:
Geneon Entertainment did a very great job, again. I found no problem, the image are clear & the color looks perfect. There is some watermarks done for the introduction & ending credits (they are translated in English). Since all the episodes are on one single track on the DVD, there is no loading time or changing tracks when you move on to the next episode. Each episode is split into 5 parts: introduction, part A, part B, ending & the preview! I do note that you can skip the warnings & logos in the beginning using the "Menu" button on your remote.
Dubbing: English:
The English dubbing is well done. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found.
Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment have selected a great font, easy to read. They use light blue (not the usual green) for the introduction & ending themes, white for any text subtitling & yellow for the dialogues. One track is for the sign subtitling & the other one is for the Japanese dialogue. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the intro & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese original text.
Menu Option:
The menu is quite simple. There is a small animation of flower petals, with the picture Maya with dual swords. There is the "Play All", the selection for each episode & "Screen Access". However, the "Set Up" & "Extras" are together. The background music is one of the battle musics of this series, but the other section don't have any background music. Selecting the "Play All", there is a little animation of wiping the screen off, but the others has no special effects.
DVD Extras:
There is only a non-credit opening of the series & nothing else. There isn't even an art gallery.
Packaging:
It's quite pink. On the cover, you see the sexy Maya with her dual sword with a pink tone Aya in the background. On the back, well, a few screenshots of the episodes in this volume. There is one little typo though. For some reason, it spelled "Juken" with two "u" instead of one. The correct spelling is "Juken", not "Juuken". The insert is the same picture as the cover, along the list of the next volume releases. On the DVD disc itself, yet again, it's the same picture as the cover. Since the DVD case is a clear, you get to see the reversible cover, once again, same picture is use, but it's the full version of it. I think it's a little to much.
PC Viewing:
Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The episodes are place on one single track as you play the episodes, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the first episode to the last episode with one move on your mouse! Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the "menu" option to go to the menu screen.
Overall DVD Rating:
I find it quite interesting, but it does get violent a bit. But, don't you worry, there is even naughty bits here & there. The amazing part is Maya's special ability & you will see why. However, it's nice to see girls kicking guys' butt for a change.
