Introduction:
On March 9, 2005, a few weeks before the famous PlayStation Portable (PSP) is to be release, Logitech Inc. has announce one of the first PSP case to be release in April, the Logitech PlayGear Pocket. Here it is! The case with a striking design lets you play games, music & movies while safely protecting the PSP.

Design:
The case protects the PSP against normal scratches & bumps with its virtually indestructible polycarbonate shell, while allowing complete accessibility to all the PSP functions. The versatile case's lid flips up & out of the way, allowing gamers to use the PSP without removing it from the case. The lid's tension hinge allows it to rotate & stay open at any angle; it can serve as a sun visor for outdoor game play or as a tabletop stand for hands-free viewing of videos or listening to music.

It fits perfectly with the PSP & it's no more then 97 mm (W), 186 mm (L), 34 mm (H) & 185 grams without the PSP.

Key Features:
  • Virtually indestructible polycarbonate armor.
  • For outside use, the lid with a friction hinge works as a sun visor.
  • For watching movies, the lid turns 270' into a stand.
  • Precision access to jacks, ports & switches without removing the PSP from the case.
  • Comes with a 2 year limited warranty.

System Specs:
For full details on the specs of the PSP, chick here, which will take you to the official spec site. It will also give you what else the PSP can do.

Updates:
Only releases in Asia, there seem to be new colors: orange, blue & white! There is no news or release date that it will be coming to North America, but who knows.

Hardware Presentation:
Special thanks to Logitech Inc. for sending a copy for a review for this site. Shortly after the official release of the PSP of the new PlayStation Portable, or for short, the PSP, Logitech Inc. have release a cool heavy duty PSP case! Made with a high durable polycarbonate plastic, it will surely keep your PSP well protected. This is perfect for all those long travel or you carried your PSP around alot.

Design:
For one thing, the design looks very appealing to the eyes. It's not ugly, but beautiful to hold in your hands. Once you open your package, the first thing you will notice is a nice clear case with black form. It got a hint that it's a PSP inside since they nicely put a little hole in the back to show off the PSP logo that is on the back of the PSP. When you open it & fits the PSP inside, the foam wraps around & hold it in place the case. The best part is that these foams can be taken off & you can paint or add your colors under it to make your case look unique! The lid itself got a nice tight seal that whatever angle you place it, it will remain where it is. You can even use the lid to hide annoying lights that reflects off the LCD screen while playing. As a double feature, flip the lid to the full range, 270 degrees, you can turn this case into a stand for all your UMD viewing pleasures. There even got holes for all the jacks, ports & switches without removing the PSP from the case. Basically, you can recharge your PSP while keeping it safe. Like all things, there is some downside. First, you need to remove the PSP out of the case everytime you need to change or taking out the UMD discs. Due the nature of polycarbonate, boy, do they catch finger prints like crazy. I have yet to see if it's scratch resistance. Last, don't forget, when opening the case, the PSP is not strapped on the case, it will fall out if you're not careful when you open it.

Gaming:
Beside you can use the lid as a light shader, it's pretty useful when you play outdoors or where there is lots of light that might bother you during your games or just watching a UMD with a dash of privacy, too. However, you can playing games in "stand" mode, but it's not practical. This case also weight fairly light, but also feel a little bulky. So, for some peoples, it might take a while to get use to it.

UMD Viewing:
For the same reason as playing games, it works great, especially the "stand" mode. I can finally able to watch UMD movies & sit back without holding it with my hands for the entire feature or place it on the table & look down, staining your neck. This is prefect for all who is a UMD collector.

Packaging:
The packaging looks pretty simple, but quite a display of showing off the wonderful case in both English & French. The only issue I have is the plastic box it comes with it. I know it's an anti-thief system, but it's really hard to cut the plastic to get to it & a real pain. You need a solid scissors to take this thing. Once you open it, you get the case & a little manual on how to use it, in four different language, too. There is information on the warranty as well, so do keep your receipts & your manual. Don't forget to recycle the rest.

Overall Hardware Rating:
Personally, I think everyone should get one of these. With an advance equipment of the PSP, this is a good investment to keep your PSP safe & sound. A suggestion, you should also get a screen protector, such as the Martin Fields: Overlay Plus Screen Protector, as well & you're all set.
