Hardware Presentation:
Special thanks to Martin Fields Inc. for sending a copy for a review for this site. As you all know, current & even future PSP owners, that the screen itself is highly scratchable & magnet to finger prints & dust that are hard to remove. It's a common problem. With that, a whole new generation of PSP screen protectors pops out into the market to combat all those nasty finger prints & dusts. Martin Fields Inc. is one of the leading screen protectors for PDA. Shortly after the official release of the PSP of the new PlayStation Portable, or for short, the PSP, they have release their own screen projector just for the PSP & wow, what's a great screen protector. I heard so much about it & some say it's one of the best in the market in PSP gears. It's like having a new screen right on your PSP. This is perfect if you used your PSP alot. Even better, it works great along side with the Logitech PSP: PlayGear Pocket.
Design:
Well, there isn't much to stay on the design, it's pretty much a thin layer of plastic that sits right on top the PSP screen. This isn't any ordinary plastic, it's high scratch resistance & it also acts as a filter for those nasty UV & other eye staining lights while playing your PSP. The size is almost exactly as the PSP screen, so it will only protect the PSP screen surface only. When you first get it, the screen protector got a back plastic (you will see a sticker call "back"), something like you see with any sticker, to protect the adhesive part. You might noticed that trying to take the this back plastic is a little challenge. Took me a while to peel it off, but be careful, because any dust can get in while peeling it. Hopefully, they will added a tab in the corner for easier peeling. Placing the screen protector is the easy part, but any dust or even air bubbles will take a while to get it a perfect clear screen. It will take a few tries to actually put the screen protector on. Practice makes perfect. I suggest to wear latex gloves & do it in a room where there is no carpet or moving air around. Once you got it on, well, you won't have to worry about the screen anymore. As a bonus, you can take it off & wash it & put it again. The adhesive doesn't even stained the PSP & if it does, it can be clean without any trouble. After doing a washing test, it does clean very well, but there is an issue on how to dry it. Don't let it dry by itself, it will leave water stain & dust particles. Using a hair dryer should help, but it doesn't work all the time.
Gaming:
It works like a charm & when I'm playing games, it doesn't seem to effect at all the colors that pops out in the screen. It did take me a bit to get use to it, but after playing for a while, you won't noticed it there anymore.
UMD Viewing:
Though playing games & watching a movie is totally different, as in I'm not going to accidentally touch the screen watching something, as oppose hitting on the buttons during a high pack game, though it still works great. But, it is still a great comfort not to worry about finger printing the screen.
Packaging:
The packaging looks pretty simple, nothing fancy. It comes in a plastic folder. On the cover, it's basically the description what you're getting & in the back, it's a list of review quotes, but I have a feeling that it's mostly related to their other screen protectors, not the PSP version. Hopefully, that will change to reflect. Inside, you will find one screen protector in a plastic bag & instructions on how to use it.
Overall Hardware Rating:
Personally, I think everyone should get one of these & shield your PSP against the evil finger prints & dusts! With an advance equipment of the PSP, this is a good investment to keep your PSP safe & sound, especially the screen itself. Since this screen protector is thin, any cases, such as the Logitech PSP: PlayGear Pocket, you won't find any problems with it. Happy gaming...
