Software Presentation:
Special thanks to CyberLink for sending me a copy for a review for this site, as well allowing me to use the software to give you all the DVD reviews on the PC. I been a PowerDVD user since version 4.0 & this site have been using 5.0 since it's release. Now, it's moving on to version 6.0. The main reason why I selected to use this awesome DVD software is that CyberLink been keeping their simple & easy to use features & it remains throughout all the versions that I have seen. Even now, the other DVD software for the PC, some are too complex, others take too much computer resources. Now, version 6.0 is out & it's better then ever. Some of the features that was optional before are now standard. I also wanted to posted out that they also do regular updates, mostly bug fixes. On a last note, the CyberLink Remote Control is fully functional with this new version & no patch is required.
Features:
This new version have the same function as version 5.0 that I have been using since it was release. It's as easy as using a remote for your regular DVD player, except with a click of your mouse. Every function is on one simple & easy to use panel. Easy fast forward & fast rewind control, slow motion & even do some screenshots during playback, all in one panel. Plus, you can see your progress on where you are via viewing bar & you can even fast forward where you want to be at one time with a click of a mouse. I have the option to keep the old classical skin that I'm sued to use. The new skin is a little hard to figure out the controls.
However, with new features & enhancements to softwares, it does get larger & requires more computer resources. However, I haven't seen any difference between version, as I haven't upgraded my computer for a while. Also, the software is still small in size, compare to other DVD Player software out on the market. This new version have now moved the CLPV & CLEV functions to the next level. The new version have step up the enhance the picture quality of your DVD through your PC. As computer monitors resolutions is now getting larger, this feature will be greatly needed. However, this feature only depends on your monitor setting. Just give it a try & see if it make any differences for your DVD viewing. It's up to personal taste! I do note that this will take a little more computer power then the standard setting.
As the previous version, there are two versions of this software, one is the standard version & the other is the deluxe version, which I'm using. They are the same, except the deluxe version have more powerful audio decoders, like DTS. This is only useful if you got the sound card to do it & the right set of speakers. There is also add-on packs that you can buy to further add more features to PowerDVD, but only if it suits your need.
If you want to compare the features & the different version between 5.0 & 6.0, just go here, PowerDVD v6.0 VS v5.0.
DVD Viewing:
I been using PowerDVD since version 4.0 & it came with the DVD-ROM so I can review all the Anime DVDs & test them via the PC. Like version 5.0 that I been using, I did turn off the CLPV & CLEV, since I really don't need it. I have no problems with any of the DVDs that I watch with. Plus, if the menu is actually a widescreen format, it will adjust to it, both in full screen & regular windows playback.
Overall Software Rating:
If you need a DVD player for your PC, I recommend choosing this software. If you don't believe me, try the other softwares out there & see what I mean. The best experience is to see it for yourself. However, since it is a software, always check for the latest patches & extra downloads. This is a must have for all your DVD viewing on your PC! I still believe that what was stated is still true, PowerDVD is still number one & it will be remaining there in my books for a long time!
