Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. Wow, it's another fighting series, but a little twist. Well, other then naughty bits. Here comes two new students, Souichiro & Bob, heading their first day in their new school. However, they got a diabolical plan to take over their new school & be in charge. However, they didn't know that their new school is a little different. It's where the best martial arts trained, like the Juken Club, Maya whooped their butt in a flash (not to mention Maya got special power to change the way how she looks). As things didn't get any worst, Aya, Maya's little sister, is chasing Souichiro & trying to make him her new husband. Here comes the evil part, like most school, there is some form of a student union & this school as one. The thing is, they rule under absolute power & whoever dare challenge their authorities, they will be punished very severely. A little cute girl to hot babes, cool fighting scenes & a little lesson about the concepts of "chi", things at the new school will be very interesting...
Video:
Geneon Entertainment did a very great job. However, this series isn't in widescreen, but in full screen. The PSP does play full-screen, just black out the side. There is some watermarks done for the introduction & ending credits (they are translated in English). Each episode is split into 5 parts: introduction, part A, part B, ending & the preview! I do note that you can skip the warnings & logos in the beginning using the "Menu" button on your remote. There is already a DVD out already, if you wish you see it on your TV!
Dubbing: English:
The English dubbing is well done. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found. Recommended listening via headphones or an external speaker system.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found. Recommended listening via headphones or an external speaker system.
Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment have selected a great font, very easy to read, but as always, since the PSP has a small screen, you might have trouble reading it without looking closely. Of course, it varies from person to person. White is the prefer color for the regular subtitling & Japanese signs & text. There is only one subtitling track, which is for the Japanese dialogue, so if you want to see the translation for the vocals, you must turn the subtitle on. I might note that every odd numbered episodes, the introduction & ending subtitles are in English, while the even numbered episodes are in Japanese original text on this volume.
Menu Option:
Even the series is in full screen, the menu is actually in widescreen format, fits right on the PSP screen. The menu is quite simple. There is a small animation of flower petals, with the picture Maya with dual swords. There is the "Play", "Audio Setup", "Subtitle Setup" & "Previews". When selected, each section will pop out the options you want to select. The background music is one of the background music from the series.
UMD Extras:
Even there is a section for extras, there isn't really any extras, just trailers for other Anime releases. This might be due that, well, UMD discs have a limited space, so you're pretty much stuck with none.
Packaging:
It's quite pink. On the cover, you see the sexy Maya with her dual sword with a pink tone Aya in the background. On the back, well, a few screenshots of the episodes in this volume. The insert is the same picture as the cover, along the list of the next DVD volume releases. On the UMD disc itself, yet again, it's the same picture as the cover. Since the UMD case is a clear, you get to see the reversible cover, once again, same picture is use, but it's the full version of it. I think it's a little to much.
Overall UMD Rating:
I find it quite interesting, but it does get violent a bit. But, don't you worry, there is even naughty bits here & there. The amazing part is Maya's special ability & you will see why. However, it's nice to see girls kicking guys' butt for a change. By now, most of you have seen the DVD version, so if you love that series enough, this is perfect to bring along with your PSP to watch during long trip! For all who have not, this is a perfect addition to your UMD collection!
