Feature Presentation:
Special thanks to Geneon Entertainment for sending a copy for a review for this site. One man with a huge bounty on his head. The classic has return, Trigun. This series is as old as, well, older then this site & yet, it comes into the new UMD format. It got to be this good with load of fun & laughter. Here we get to meet a man that is so dangerous that he got a bounty of $60,000,000,000! What did he do? What kind of guy that can have that kind of bounty, dead or alive, on his head? That man, his name is Vash, the mysterious guy with a sweet silver gun, that's who. His name is so famous that just speaking it make an entire town run with fear. However, it's not what you expected to what kind of person he is. Join the adventures of Vash as he goes to, well, I really don't know.
Video:
Geneon Entertainment did a very great job. However, this series isn't in widescreen, but in full screen. The PSP does play full-screen, just black out the side. There is some watermarks done for the introduction & ending credits (they are translated in English), maybe for some parts in the series. Each episode is split into 5 parts: introduction, part A, part B, ending & the preview! I do note that you can skip the warnings & logos in the beginning using the "Menu" button on your remote. There is already a DVD out already, if you wish you see it on your TV!
Dubbing: English:
Even for its age, the dubbing is really very well done. It's about 85% of the original Japanese.
Audio 01: English 2.0:
No problem found. Recommended listening via headphones or an external speaker system.
Audio 02: Japanese 2.0:
No problem found. Recommended listening via headphones or an external speaker system.
Subtitle:
Geneon Entertainment have selected a great font, very easy to read, but as always, since the PSP has a small screen, you might have trouble reading it without looking closely. Of course, it varies from person to person. White is the prefer color for the regular subtitling & Japanese signs & text. There is only one subtitling track, which is for the Japanese dialogue only. For sone unknown reasons, there are screen on green subtitles in the ending theme that can't be removed.
Menu Option:
Even the series is in full screen, the menu is actually in widescreen format, fits right on the PSP screen. I's Vash with his wanted poster. There is the "Play", "Audio Setup", "Subtitle Setup" & "Previews". When selected, each section will pop out the options you want to select, but you must use the back function to return to the previous menu. The background music is one of the background music from the series.
UMD Extras:
Even there is a section for extras, there isn't really any extras, just trailers for other Anime releases. This might be due that, well, UMD discs have a limited space, so you're pretty much stuck with none.
Packaging:
The package is almost the same as the DVD release, if you have seen it or own it. On the cover, you will see Vash with his big gun. In the back, you see Vash once again walking down to the sun set. The insert has information on the limited edition boxset for this series that was release & for all you new to your PSP, there is instructions how to work an UMD disc! On the UMD disc itself, it's simple red with the title on it. Since the UMD disc case is a clear one, it's Vash again with a boring white background.
Overall UMD Rating:
First, I thought this series is a little more different, after all, it's a guy with a huge bounty on his head. But, in the end, it's totally different & our so called hero Vash is not what he seems to be. You got to see to believe. Sit back & enjoy the laugh & craziness. By now, most of you have seen the DVD version, so if you love that series enough, this is perfect to bring along with your PSP to watch during long trip! For all who have not, this is a perfect addition to your UMD collection!
